One of the things that I really like about Twitter is that the platform reduces barriers to communication, and this is certainly true within the medical world. Here we have 6 LA-based cardiologists who 20 years ago would probably never have a reason to communicate beyond their patient, research and medical communities, and yet today Twitter allows them to share a small window into their worklife, research, and interests, thereby making their world just slightly more available to interested audiences.
In celebration of yesterday’s annual Valentine’s Day, awareness of American Heart Association’s Heart Month, and general health community building for LA, here are 6 LA-based heart pros you might want to ❤️ and follow:
1. Marcella Press MDPhD
Dr Marcella Press is an interventional cardiologist who is affiliated with Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center as well as an Associate Clinical Professor of Cardiology at the David Geffen School of Medicine. She is also the Co-Director of UCLA Women’s Cardiovascular Center.

2. Dr Janki Shah
As Dr Shah’s bio from UCLA Health’s Provider Directory indicates: Dr. Shah earned her bachelor’s degree at Stanford University and her medical degree at USC School of Medicine (Alpha Omega Alpha honor society). She completed her internship and residency in internal medicine at UCLA School of Medicine followed by her fellowship in cardiovascular disease at Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles Medical Center (LAMC). Dr. Shah is board certified in Cardiovascular Diseases, Echocardiography, and Nuclear Cardiology.

3. Dr Junaid Zaman
Dr Zaman’s bio as indicated on Society of Bedside Medicine, an organization that he advises: Junaid Zaman, MA, BMBCh, MRCP, obtained his medical degree from University of Oxford. He recently completed a 2 year postdoctoral Fulbright BHF Scholarship at Stanford, where he regularly contributed to the Stanford 25 Bedside Medicine Program. He has won teaching awards for his bedside teaching at Oxford and Imperial College London. He brings a transatlantic perspective to SBM from his post-graduate training in the US and UK.

5. Dr William Suh
As described on Dr Suh’s UCLA Health medical directory profile, Dr Suh’s research interests include: Dr. Suh’s clinical and research interests are in coronary artery disease and structural heart disease. Dr. Suh is an interventional cardiologist and performs catheter-based procedures in the treatment of coronary artery disease, valvular heart disease, and intracoronary imaging. Dr. Suh is one of the primary investigators for the PROMISE and RESCUE trials investigating the utility of coronary CT angiography in the diagnosis of coronary artery disease. Dr. Suh is interested in vulnerable plaque imaging and prevention of heart attacks. Dr. Suh performs TAVR (transcatheter aortic valve replacement) for the treatment of severe aortic stenosis in patients that are high risk or inoperable.
